24 HOURS ON THE STREETS!

Standard

On October the 10th 2015 it is world homeless day.

To highlight the plight of millions of people on the planet surviving without homes or shelter and to raise funds for the Pilion Trusts young persons winter shelter, myself and my partner Owen are going to spend 24 hours living on the streets of London without any money or food.

We are trying to raise as much money as possible for The Crash Pad. Our minimum target is £1000 – but we would love to raise more. We will also be running a stall giving out information to the public and hopefully raising even more funds with a charity bucket.

SO PLEASE DONATE NOW AND HELP SAVE YOUNG PEOPLE FROM THE STREETS.

Please go to the link below and watch the video

Some facts and figures about the crash pad. Please read.

The Crash Pad is a winter shelter which is open from 1st December to the end of April. It supports homeless young people in crisis and at risk and provides a friendly family orientated place that they can rest and feel safe. During their stay at the shelter, the young people are given a bed with clean bedding, towels, dinner and breakfast, access to hot water and bathroom facilities, somewhere to wash and dry their clothes and someone to listen to them and support them throughout their stay.

As well as providing a safe shelter, the staff at the Crash Pad support the young people with:

Finding accommodation and tenancy rights
Education and employment
Life skills
Benefits and Budgeting
Their mental and physical health
Their self esteem
Workshops including music, writing, art and cookery classes
In the winter of 2014/15, 116 young people stayed at the Crash Pad. Most of the young people accessing the shelter had emotional and psychological needs. They were not just asking for housing. Their complex needs included:

Self Harming
Attempted suicides
Eating Disorders
Violence by partners
Abuse in the home
Issues with Sexuality and Gender
Addictions
Trauma and Torture
Parental neglect and violence
Mental Health and Wellbeing
Cultural issues

Based on the 116 young people who accessed the shelter, all have been found support, housing, family connections and more.
100% of young people were supported to move into safe and secure accommodation.
82 young people attended and completed all workshops.
100% of young people left the project with the ability to cook and remain healthy during the winter.
100% accessed support packs for winter warmth.
5% of the young people returned to the streets after 01.05.2015 but support for them was continued until they were housed.

PLEASE HELP THE PILION TRUST TO CONTINUE THEIR AMAZING WORK….THANKYOU

World Homelessness Day 2014

10.10.2014 – We ask for everyone around the world to take a moment out their day, troubles, woes, fears etc., and think of the millions of people around the world who are homeless and rough sleeping tonight.

London Homelessness has risen by over 6%. The October rains have arrived and the winter cold is coming. How many people will die this winter on the streets of London?

protest[1]

No matter how hard life seems at the moment, there is still hope as you are not homeless. Escalating house prices, inflated rentals, no council stock, zero Local Authority help and the Government talks about Affordable Housing?

What does that look like in reality?

Fuck The Poor?

Charity asks Londoners to put their money where their mouths are in controversial ‘Fuck The Poor’ campaign

7/04/13 – The Pilion Trust, a charity which helps some of the poorest and most vulnerable, has conducted a social experiment on the people of London to see if we really do care about those who are less fortunate.

A man wearing a sign saying “Fuck the poor” was sent out to the streets of the capital as part of a campaign for the charity by advertising agency Publicis. Londoners were secretly filmed taking the man to task for the offensive statement.

Afterwards, the man flipped his sign over so that it read “Help the poor” and he proceeded to ask for donations – but this time people completely ignored him.

The film of the social experiment is being posted on youtube on 7th Apriland will be released in cinemaslater in the month.

The campaign message is: “We know you care. Please care enough to give.”

Savvas Panas, the Chief Executive of the Pilion Trust, said: “As a charity that has been severely affected by the nationwide decrease in charitable donations (20%) and Government cuts (60%).

We understand that some may be shocked by this footage. We are more offended however, that people across the United Kingdom are living in adverse poverty.”

Andy Bird, Executive Creative Director of Publicis said, “The Pilion Trust is a small front line charity without the budget to make itself heard in paid-for media, and also loses out on high street donations, so we helped them to make a film that highlighted the discrepancy between peoples attitude when confronted with injustice and bigotry about poverty, and then their apathy when asked directly to help do something about it – donate.’

Pilion Trust – The Crashpad Shelter Appeal

Video

We at The Pilion Trust would like to let everyone know that The Caledonian Road Methodist Church are NOT throwing The Shelter Me! Young Person’s Crash Pad out…
They kindly let us use the basement of their church during the winter months December  – April.

The Crash Pad fits in around the churches life and we would like to categorically state THEY ARE NOT THROWING US OUT and take this opportunity to send them a very warm thank them you for their generosity; help and partnership work.

Due to the government’s hard line policies on young people and charities creating hardship and increased homelessness which we foresee as becoming a long term all year round issue.

We have found that there is an urgent need to continue the work we have been doing and so are looking for another more permanent and suitable building.

It’s not the churches job to have to house young people all year around.

The Caledonian Methodist Church were the only people who came to help The Pilion Trust and these young people during the freezing spell of 2010/11 and our CEO spoke to a lot of people and our relationship has been built up since then and we are pained that people have misunderstood the serious and primary reason for the video, which is to highlight the plight of the young people and not to malign the very kind hearted actions of The Caledonian Road Methodist Church and their congregation.
