24 HOURS ON THE STREETS!

Standard

On October the 10th 2015 it is world homeless day.

To highlight the plight of millions of people on the planet surviving without homes or shelter and to raise funds for the Pilion Trusts young persons winter shelter, myself and my partner Owen are going to spend 24 hours living on the streets of London without any money or food.

We are trying to raise as much money as possible for The Crash Pad. Our minimum target is £1000 – but we would love to raise more. We will also be running a stall giving out information to the public and hopefully raising even more funds with a charity bucket.

SO PLEASE DONATE NOW AND HELP SAVE YOUNG PEOPLE FROM THE STREETS.

Some facts and figures about the crash pad. Please read.

The Crash Pad is a winter shelter which is open from 1st December to the end of April. It supports homeless young people in crisis and at risk and provides a friendly family orientated place that they can rest and feel safe. During their stay at the shelter, the young people are given a bed with clean bedding, towels, dinner and breakfast, access to hot water and bathroom facilities, somewhere to wash and dry their clothes and someone to listen to them and support them throughout their stay.

As well as providing a safe shelter, the staff at the Crash Pad support the young people with:

Finding accommodation and tenancy rights
Education and employment
Life skills
Benefits and Budgeting
Their mental and physical health
Their self esteem
Workshops including music, writing, art and cookery classes
In the winter of 2014/15, 116 young people stayed at the Crash Pad. Most of the young people accessing the shelter had emotional and psychological needs. They were not just asking for housing. Their complex needs included:

Self Harming
Attempted suicides
Eating Disorders
Violence by partners
Abuse in the home
Issues with Sexuality and Gender
Addictions
Trauma and Torture
Parental neglect and violence
Mental Health and Wellbeing
Cultural issues

Based on the 116 young people who accessed the shelter, all have been found support, housing, family connections and more.
100% of young people were supported to move into safe and secure accommodation.
82 young people attended and completed all workshops.
100% of young people left the project with the ability to cook and remain healthy during the winter.
100% accessed support packs for winter warmth.
5% of the young people returned to the streets after 01.05.2015 but support for them was continued until they were housed.

PLEASE HELP THE PILION TRUST TO CONTINUE THEIR AMAZING WORK….THANKYOU
